On April 20, 2022, Ip Kuai Lam, member of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund, and Che Weng Keong, Director of the Science and Technology Department of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, visited the Macau Institute for Translational Medicine and Innovation (MITMI). Yonghua Zhao, Interim Associate Head of MITMI, warmly received the guests and introduced the progress of the Institute’s work in the past five months since its establishment in December last year and the next stage of development planning.
Mr. Ip and Mr. Che expressed their full recognition and appreciation of the phased results achieved by the Institute since its establishment, and hoped that the institute would focus one of its work in the next phase on helping to promote more quality university projects to be transformed into reality. For example, assisting researchers at Macau universities in their contacts with enterprises and promoting the industrialization of research results by faculty members who have a need for translation. In addition, Mr. Ip also supported and affirmed the efforts of Institute to train regulatory science personnel, and suggested that the Institute could start by conducting training and coaching sessions on the project transformation pathway for faculty members on campus.
Prof. Zhao Yonghua said since the unveiling ceremony, the MITMI has adhered to policy of “Staying firm on the foundation of one country and making the best use of two systems”. MITMI introduced drug supervision experts within a short time to strengthen the regulatory policy research team, actively assisted the Macau Drug Administration and other departments in building a scientific system for drug regulation, and provided professional advice to the Drug Administration in introducing various policies. After the Macau Drug Administration officially launched the technical instructions for supporting Chinese medicine regulations, the Transformation Institute will follow the relevant regulations and guidelines to assist more high-quality projects to be transformed into Macao and contribute to the economic development of Macao.
After the meeting, Interim Associate Head Zhao Yonghua took photos with the guests.
